Reality of IIMs...

I was on cloud nine like all other entrants of IIM Calcutta. Life was appearing like a bed of roses at that instant. Everyone was dreaming of good pay package, decent living standards and a sparkling future life.
The problem here is the data on which every other individual is relying upon, everyone expects himself to be above average. And another problem is inflated data being provided by these institutes to attract more and more and brighter candidates. Also the reason behind these expectations is the fee structure of these institutes. But beyond these, the actual problem arise when 80% of the batch is expecting to get 10% of available job profiles that used to come during placements. And every another candidate is aspiring for money rather than his/her interests or taking care of his background or his family needs.
And with all these dreams, college days begin. Few of the dreams are shattered during summer placements itself, as during this time candidates realizes the role of networking (better word nepotism) in getting an intern at good firm rather than just talent. Also, on the positive side, few of the candidates realize their shortcomings and start working on them. Still many dreams are alive on the base of final and lateral placements.
In all such events, learning is rarely the goal of any candidate. But exceptions are always there. Learning and paper publishing all are just for so called CV points because that will only increase their chances of getting the highest paid job.
Now comes the laterals, all with work experience are aspiring for the best available jobs leaving one after another low paying jobs or firm with low publicity ratings. Every one is aiming for next big thing. And the freshers are soothing themselves on the ground that better firms will come in final placements. And the D day comes, shattering dreams of many; realizing them their weakness, again the importance of networking and bitter truth of life. If that would be a recession time, things would be worst for greater number of people.
Mainly freshers are victim of the above mentioned phenomenon but many experienced candidates also fell prey to this greed. In all such cases, job is just a myriad mirage of which you are never sure of; but learning there at such a premium institute is the actual reality to be grabbed.

What matters in life.....

What I appears to my friends or my relatives or any other individual is a guy who is the happiest of all. The reason behind their thinking is my academic degrees that is a combination of IIT and IIM, a girlfriend from school, a decent well paying job in a start-up.
But these are something which is superficial to a character like me and many others who are like this. Having all such degrees and facilities and things to boast upon, there lies a sense of responsibility to all the stakeholders of your life. Be it your parents, your girlfriend, your business associates, your friends, your relatives. And when you are in a position to influence and bring change in the life of others either academically or monetarily, everyone has expectations from you. And since the meaning of your success is so much associated with the praise of all these stakeholders in your life; you just can't ignore their needs and expectations and you need to manage your time. And then here comes the problem.
Till now, you never realized what you actually want from life; because from childhood the career path is being fixed in a country like India where because of economic inequality people are focused on materialistic lifestyle. And to earn money and live a powerful influential lifestyle, these degrees and jobs are the easiest way. But now when that path comes to an end and you are fulfilling needs and expectations of all other than you. A feeling of self neglection starts arousing inside you, and you will thinking about all your wishes which would been neglected in achieving this lifestyle.
It's at this time, in my case I am thinking about what i really want to do in life, what i want from my life. What i want to see myself doing for next 30 to 40 years rather than just living a life where I am earning money and satisfying needs of families, relatives or friends. This doesn't mean that i am neglecting them, but rather it's a coexistence of both's wishes and needs.
That's why what I feel at this stage is that first make yourself happy and comfortable with your work and wishes by discovering the true yourself (obviously for those who are done with academics) and then entertain others wishes and needs to be fulfilled by you. And the balance needs to be established.

Change

What's a typical Indian mindset is? Is it something which always resisted the change. Isn't it always being uncomfortable to the change in his/her usual lifestyle or way of living. Isn't it always being demoralizing those who are the carriers of transformation. Isn't it always wanted to live in its own shell.
If it's a no; then why, people resisted to opening up of Indian economy in 1991. Then why, bank employees resisted against the computerization. May be there would be a flip side to earlier mentioned resistance. But, why they resisted to the type of clothes wore by individuals. Why they resisted against the inter caste marriages. Why people still become uncomfortable when they see an adult boy and girl walking together in a tier II or III city. Why they regard it as a westernization of Indian culture. Don't they know that India is a mixture of cultures enriched by arabic, iranian as well as chinese and malay culture too. Why even after having a post graduate degree in law or philosophy or geography or science, people/parents can't differentiate a taboo of the society.
I believe that mentality is something not very own. It's rather a product developed from the ingredients of casteism, religious hatred practiced by Indians from the last five to six centuries. And this mentality was more polluted during british era; which somewhat somewhere infused the feeling of survival by suppressing others. Two hundred years of marginal to negative growth led to a mentality of preserving every item to ideology.
May be because of that, they still believe that Indian culture is polluted by being westernized. Even after being post-graduated they believe in casteism or regionalism to showoff their supremacy over others; which has become a survival need for them. And when these people either in age group of 20's or 30's or 40's or even 50's, see a boy and girl walking together, regard it as anti-indian culture. This survival need of having supremacy, which is there in Indians, rarely allow any wife to rise above the glory of his husband or provide 100% security to a lady walking alone on the road.
This sickness in Indian culture can't be overcome until unless everyone realized the pain to be on the other side of this suppression and supremacy story or in close contact with such pain.

An evening with Dr. Subir Gokarn

Those who are great researchers are not only great because of their extraordinary knowledge rather the way , they link those matters of rocket science with the most basic principles. They make even the most critical subject so easy to understand. The lecture by Dr. Subir Gokarn was one such experience.
He was there to give an introductory lecture on sustainability of Indian's growth in future. The way he explained the relationship between the productivity, wages, inflation and all the present happenings was unattainable by many of us.
As per him, because of current rise in income of the Indian citizens specially in the rural region because of these govt. initiatives like MGNREGA and others, where productivity of labor hasn't been improved. In fact, there is decline in their productivity of these labors because of poor planning of govt. officials at lower level. Because of which, same road been constructed by two different agencies in a span of 6 months. Although the basic aim behind these programmes is to give employment. And the issue of productivity has been neglected. At industrial level, this is happening to less extent.
Now the people has money but the services are not generated up to mark which ultimately leading to inflation due to supply side constraint, which is arisen because of lower productivity. Now, if RBI try to contain this inflation for long term growth sustainability so that real value of money will be intact. But the way things are going with RBI following the classical economy and govt. laying emphasis on Keynesian economy; things will be pretty much tough to handle for both of them.
~All these facts and much more, when coupled with graphs and figures and from the mouth of Dr. Gokarn feels so smoothing and easy~
Only experience can give justice to this.

Writing your Auto-Biography.....

It's a pretty creative and mixed feeling in writing your own biography. And i would say it's a must experience task. The toughest part is where to begin. But this would expose to various forgotten incidents and importance of our nearby relations.
As per me, writing autobiography is more important than the content of our biography. The sort of feelings that crossed our mind while remembering every other incident happened in the past and your analysis to all such events is definitely an experience of lifetime. These analysis of our earlier life's events with more matured thinking and ideas of ours not only guide us in reacting to uncomfortable situations but also in bringing our past into our conscious brain.
Various relations which are soured in present gets sweetened with this task. It reminded us of thier importance based on their previous interactions with us. Some of those interactions make us sentimental, others make us more light but overall those interactions give us a true nature of a person to us. In our day to day life, this thing is often neglected by us and we usually believe on someone on the basis of last few transaction.
Regarding the guidance to our life goal, it's the best way. It not only help us (at least me) in deciding what to do from our life maximizing the benefits of all the stakeholders in our life.

#Team work# Justified at school/college....

Team work or Group work has always been the most important aspect of any corporate task or in normal scenario. It's because of the importance of this, team work has been an integral part of school or college education.
At college level, I still can't figure out the true learning from this. As the rules are not same at college level and at corporate level. The freeriding phenomenon is more prominent at college level. Without the presence of power in the hand of team leader and equal benefits to all the members of the group while at the corporate level, team leader has higher rewards as well as more power to stop free-riding of the involved members.
Although the benefits to members are there in both the case but presence of competition as well as differentiation in benefits to stakeholders in the group are not there at school or college level.
However, there is learning even after the absence of such policies at school/college level group tasks. The learning is there in form of motivating others for work, dealing with free-riding problem as well as better learning through team work. But when the things can be made much better and learning curve can be more steep after introducing such differentiation and competitive basis approach with presence of team leaders, why not follow the same.....

Irritation

I don't know why i get irritated mainly during the times when things are not happening as per my wish. Or is it due to the reason that during my bad times when events are happening against me without any contribution of mine into that and in those times, those which are under my control also get away from me.
During those times, even a fly on my bed get me irritated or even when someone enters the room with wet sleepers makes me irritated. Overall, there is no reason to be irritated but still because of past incidents, i get irritated.
But when i look into this thing, i realized that i get irritated not because during that time period, i wasn't thinking about my future or how to manage or working to correct my mistakes in the future. Rather, i was looking into tiny things like my room cleanliness, physical hygiene and thinking about my failure into the last few activities.
When you are foreseen and be reactive to that, there ain't be any reason to be irritated.
