Interests Contd......

Can one devote (or you can say waste) his 2 to 3 years of most productive phase of life just for a goal he/she is not contempt with.

Well, the answer is in affirmative and up till my knowledge they are mostly Indians. And the worst side to that is they are the most brilliant minds.Just for the sake of building the profile to get an entry into the Ivy League or HBS or LBS, they are involved into Start-Ups or into social works. The main motive behind all these efforts is to enter some of the best B-schools of the world and either be a Banker, Trader or CEO of any MNC.

Up till my exposure to such candidates, what i feel that they are in a race where they are supposed to prove themselves to their parents, friends, batch-mates or to the world. Neither do they have any interest nor they have the time to devote into something they like because by the time they are liking some field or job or work; another one is ready alluring them to be followed.

May be this is because the way we Indian children are raised, where we are always compared with others either into our academics or in sports or in extra curricular activities. Competition is like the sixth sense organ we have from child, always bothering about something others have and never about the peculiarity we have. And the uneven economic distribution inside India is one among the major contributor to this. Every or at least most of the best minds from middle class families always aspire to be a CEO or MD or a guy with lots of money. Their aim is to be the best in the field they are choosing.

Up to this point, it's more or less acceptable but the problem comes when you become the best or you achieved the goal. Now you are aimless, the aim or goal with which you are thriving throughout your life is gone. Now you are looking for the field or the work you are most interested in.

Here What i don't understand is; If finally we have to work into something we are most interested in, then why wasting 10 to 12 years of life in just proving yourself to anyone into a field which is not of your choice.

May be because of this, we Indians are very productive but rarely creative . Most of the time, we are good bankers, good consultants, excellent in programming but rarely we own a powerful programming language or a ground breaking/industry shaking patent.

Sustainable Career

When i was in 2nd standard i wanted to be the prime minister of India. That was becoz i heard from somewhere that it's the prime minister who owns everything we encounter in our day to day life.
When i came to 5th, i wanted to become a doctor because every time when i said to become prime minister; they laughed and said,"who wants to be prime minister? You should rather be a doctor or an engineer."
When i was in class 7, i came to know about novel prize and the charisma associated with that and i decided to be a scientist.
When i came to 8th, i came to know about IIT and engineering from my school seniors and my elder brother and the money i would be earning after that. Then i wanted to be an engineer.

Recent Happenings

When i was doing B.Tech, saw a glimpse of real world during internship. After reading magazines and lot of articles i decided to go for civil servicesand started preparing for that.
And now i am here doing MBA and focusing on finance as a career for me. You never know
"What life has stored in it for you."
Throughout my academic career of 21 years, i have been continuously going after one aspiration or another just on the basis of the career opportunities and so called WIIFM

What's in it for me

I had never bothered about my interest or in what i was good at. I had never asked the question from me that "Would i be sustainable (most popular word these days in management circle)with the career i was choosing that time". Well, sooner or later I realized the importance of word Sustainability in life.

Does it matter.....

Last five days...i have seen more emotions than last five years of my life. Placements, especially the summer internship placements made the feelings so aroused even the most stable could not hold on his emotions. May be because of the expectations we have whenever we try to achieve our goal, may be because when we see our dreams to be lived by others, or may be because even after such a good friendship we don't want him to live the dream of our's.
But does that really matters; is it always necessary to sacrifice your friends in the line of competition; or isn't there is another way of achieving the same. Is that necessary to satisfy yourself with the lesser or change your path if you don't achieve your first goal of your life. Is that is life, where after betrayal and loss, you would change your path.
Don't know about others, but i don't think so. Life is there for me after every betrayal and after every loss. Emotions, friends, success and failure all are part of my life. But i would chose friends and losses for my life ....because they are the only who inspire me.

New World.....

Sometimes knowingly or unknowingly, we choose that path of life you never imagined of. Joining IIM Calcutta is the same for. The type of people i am exposed to (at IIMC) is just non-comparable to any previous exposure. It feels like i am a sardine here at this institute, surrounded by people from Barclays capital, merill llynch, credit suisse, infosys, and many national and international banking institutions as well as other technical firms. Besides these, there are freshers like me but with far more brilliance than i ever had. Living in such an environment and attending classes with all of them in the same classroom make me sometimes feels like non-competitive with them. It seems to me that i am a naive in front of their work experience and their achievements in life.
But here, i have to realized the fact that i am here not to compete with others but to gain 'what they have' from them. I can learn a lot from each one of them, and that's should be my solo aim. Life is not just about competition at all stages of life, it is also about learning from your peers and achieve the goal you are aiming for not by competing with others rather by acquiring the necessary traits from them. Learning need to be the solo aim rather than success in life. And i realized this at this point of life. Hoping, you would soon realize the same better as soon as possible in its true sense.

I aspire.....

The first time i aspire to achieve something was about 16 to 18 years back and may be it was an unconscious desire, but it was the first one of my life, where i got promoted in LKG and i desire to have good marks in UKG. It might be a childish desire, but in that dream all the efforts were going to be mine. Well, after that i had had very good marks.
Now, i aspire to stood first in my class, and that aspire of mine to be fulfilled required the efforts of mine, intelligence of mine and decision taking capability of mine or in short you can say the success of that dream all depends of me. And this time too i succeed.
Then came the eighth standard, i aspire to get highest among all the sections of my standard. Now, came the time to do hard work and more dedication to my studies. I had quit sports to complete my this desire too. And again all the hard work of mine paid me.
That was the tenth standard and i was too addicted to aspire and achieve all that i wanted. That time it was tenth board examination, and i aspired to get the highest ever achieved by anyone from my school up to that time. I worked hard, but somewhere in mind i was too much confident in achieving the same and not worked harder. Every time i committed some mistake in the paper, i just satisfied myself with the answer of mine. And finally after the results, there were almost five ahead of me in my own batch. I failed but still it was all fault of mine.
The journey started once again after that with the road of "aspire" going through IIT, A good job to the IIM. And all the time, it is just me who is going to decide tha fate of my "aspire".
But then came the blunder, this time i aspire to have my girlfriend (from 7th standard)my soulmate. And this time too, i am trying my best riding on the results of IIT, IIM along with a very good job; i aspire to achieve the social malpractice of casteism. But this time, i failed to recognize that the fate of this aspire of mine is not in the hands of mine, neither it's in the hands of mine efforts, hard work and all my achievements so far. Rather it's in the hands of that generation for whom caste and creed comes before life, for whom education is a medium of spreading the effects of casteism. This time i forget that "Aspire is life but only upto then when the fate of that aspire all is in your hand". This time i come in conflict with the society with my family with my dear ones with my childhood heroes but i never aspire to have a clash with these heroes of my life. You can say academically i achieved a lot or infact that for which more than half of today's youth of india aspire but in life i am in conflict with that society (which aspires to achieve what i am having) and with those parents (who aspire that their son will achieve that what i have already achieved). And the irony of my life is "I am still called SUCCESSFULL".

How it starts.......

We all born blank and white in character. For some it's the situations which transforms them into good or bad as per their ability to take and judge the happenings with them, for some it's the surroundings into which they are raised that cultivates the feeling of being good or bad and for most of us it's the gradual change that happens with all of us staring right from our school or college life that makes us into a courteous or impudent.
In the beginning like during school days we try to do our jobs first, and then take care of others if one is benevolent enough right from his childhood. As most of us are unaware of throat cutting competition lying ahead in future and take utmost care to our friends or least to liked ones. Still at this level we make fool of others sometimes in greed to prizes, or for results or just to get favour from the teachers. More or less it's the best part of life to have selfless friendship.
Then comes the college life, where we are much aware of our future and career, already spent 12 to 16 years of life facing competition in school life, we are much acquainted with it and used to discover more newer ways to get ahead of others by hook or by crook. Now we are more concerned towards our jobs first and then our's pleasure and then comes the friends or others. This is the stage where we start neglecting other concerns and other problems and more worried about ours.
Then finally we come out into the brutal world where we become much more worse than ever. Now to succeed, we even make use of poor's money to buy a Merc, porche or audi. Now to show our status and for our pleasure we even forgetting our duties towards society. And above all to prevent ourselves from landing into any problem we started using loopholes of society to get our work done and leave the rest to hell.
If this is happening to us, i refuse to grow , i refuse to walk past my college boundary.

Importance....

When i was in school i believe that what appreciable by others is the most important job/task or dream to be achieved. Taking the example of taking science and practicing more mathematics and obtaining higher marks in those, as it would going to be appreciated by batchmates, teachers, parents and more important parent's friends and relatives.
After then i went to college, and then recognized that achieve what is best available among the choices available to you and again the motivational factor up to some extent is the society and the people residing around you and the priority of maoney also focussed mainly towards the society. Then come a day, when told by the steno of the HOD of my department "DECIDE YOUR PRIORITIES AS PER YOUR DREAM NOT AS PER YOUR RELATIONS & SOCIETY". At the same day i realized that almost my entire life i have seen others around me following the same what i was told to avoid. Silently and quietly i sat one day and started deciding what i really want to do in my life and came across four objectives and then prioritize them and then started planning to achieve the same and in the course i realized that society and relations stands nowhere. It's the priority that makes you leave the iims even that motivate you to live life in the dark for a while to shine like the morning rising sun.

opportunities.....and you

Never before i have realized the meaning of this word "opportunity". Or it may be because never before i have been stuck in such a situation where you have number of roads waiting to be followed and you have to decide the one. It is very much true that it's depends on your choice, your dream of future in academics. But what will happen when educational dream as well as your personal real life dream "contrasting to your first one" come in the way of each other. Of all many of the opportunities are good for you but you have to choose the one that best suits your needs satisfying both the dreams up to some extent or you can follow one among the twos neglecting the second. Talking of a situation where to be with your gf you have to choose the job out of the two opportunity of joining the job or joining the iim. It looks ridiculous that you are leaving the IIM and joining the job, but here comes the real decision making capability out of all the opportunities available to you as well as discovering new one that best suits your need. You can either take a chance on yourself that if i am capable of clearing the iim once i can do it twice "the next year" or you can look for other fiels like administrative services. It seems very depressing that you are choosing UPSC over IIMs but it all depends upon your will as well as on your self motivation towards the newer and the better one. And you are doing all this to your (never know whether he\she is faithful enough) soulmate. But you know life is about taking chances of which we indians are not good in. I am doing the same, betting on my abilities and determination.

Real life........

We are taught from our childhood to read and learn as much as you can to fulfill your every dream to earn a lot and earn respect. While going on the path of the same teaching we learn the ideal world, learn the ideal situation and learn to live without barriers. It's the school/college only where our parents our teacher never check us on mingling with our muslim. christian (or any religion) batchmates. Never at this stage our parents advice us to make friends of same caste or community. Then why after passing from these institutes they starts expecting the same which in previous they never forced upon. All the beliefs shatter at this stage, it doesn't matter whether you are a nit'ian or iit'ian or from a normal college you all will be treated the same on question of loving a muslim or an another community's soul.
At the iit level what's the thinking during the entry into this prestigious institute is that "now every dream of mine will come true". But this is not something to be boasted upon on the orthodox feeling of the society. Long back society was influenced and hierarchy was decided on the basis of education. Education was at the centre of stage of this world of drama. Still all the beliefs of our society was inherited from that time only but the role of education shifted to the back stage to the only role of earning for survival. What i think the only remedy for this "Don't pass the same feeling to the next generation" and "Try try try and more try until you succeed whether against society or orthodox thinking of your dear ones".

Science or Arts: Which is more important ....

From the seventh standard, after knowing the importance of science the scope in the field of science , what science can do for the betterment of the life on the earth as well as in understanding the past and future of the earth; living in the belief that the science is the best subject of all available into this world and the most elaborate one including all the major subjects of today’s curriculum.
And after being a science graduate along with the engineering graduation and studied specifically the science for the last eight years under different discipline my belief should have to become more rigid. But contrary to this, I have realized the arts discipline to be more directly related to the social life. Subjects like philosophy, sociology and psychology which deals with the state of mind, relation between man and nature, needs for liberty, equality, fraternity for the survival of the social life seems more important now. It’s the idea that leads to the invention, it’s the effort that leads to the discovery but it’s the sound mental health of the people that’s make a healthy society which is the mother of all inventions. And a society to be well behaved, there needs the feeling of freedom, equality and many others and all these are well traversed in arts. Life is there before the arrival of these ideas in the form of anarchy and monarchy but the way and condition most of the people were living in those times were very much below the standard. The Renaissance which transformed the medieval history into modern one was very much inspired by the sociological ideas of john locke, Aristotle and many others. Well, this time may be I am exaggerating the facts about the arts or it’s due to the fact that I am a beginner into this. But it’s undoubtedly true that arts is no less important than science.

Engineering Vs Real World

At the institute level, we are taught the best way to solve a problem, the best way to design for a structure taking care of all the failures and all the worst situations. Talking of a simple tunnel project having overburden of tens to thousand of tonnes of load along with the presence of various soft rock pockets present there in.Designing tunnels in such conditions requires lots of effort along with codal requirements and lots of experimentation to be done before proceeding to designing part(leave the construction apart).
Studying all these in the classroom, hearing about all these multi-crore projects in a 10 by 10 classroom seems so fascinating. But coming to real world where working under for companies and where profit is the main motive where the executive officer or the owner more concerned about the time and profits to be made.Reducing experimentation neglecting number of essential boreholes to be made and design the structure on the basis of incomplete ground profile often leads to failure. And as usual after such a havoc, a committee will be set up to enquire into the matter comprising of some beaureaucrates and rock engineering experts where again to get out of that contractors and company owners bribe the committee members to again find the loopholes into the indian codes or into the report itself to get rid of criminal offense.
All the knowledge gained at the institute level get modified in the real world suiting the real situations.

These days........

From the last two months after the end of seventh semester, I have not able to concentrate my mind on a particular topic for say study, relationship or having fun with my friends. Don’t know why I am feeling like this but never before in my life I have felt so empty from inside. Or may be because from the last two months I started thinking after every little glimpse of environment and surrounding around us, pondering over the condition of the people who are not so lucky to have a decent life standard or to the millions of girls whose every childhood dream related to fly and glide freely in the clear blue sky of this globalised world. Or may be due to the thoughts that why we become so indifferent to the needs of others especially those ill-fated children and young clad beauties when we become able “to contribute in making their life livable if not paradise. Or may be due to lots of travelling I am doing these days which exposed me to the real Indian society and it’s life rather to the confined lavish 365 acres of my institute. Or may be because what happening in my near surroundings that after seeing all the above, finds my colleagues more indifferent to all these, their ignorance about our country india about our society or about our future, their negligence their lack of interest to respect the feeling of others.
Well, may be it’s not their fault it’s because the small world they have seen around them it’s because they never step out of their saloon. Don’t know why but I personally feel that travel is must for a youth who has got established in life and travelling not only to hill stations and beaches for fun but to the hard working people of the hills who have to waste a ton of energy just to get a kilos of food, interacting with the fishermen of those beaches who never fears to put their life on the mercy of sea to feed their children, who are the first on the receiving end of the nature’s fury and last on the list of getting benefits from the govt. Travelling and lots of travelling that can transform them or atleast change their attitude towards life.

Price rise or the reason for slowing of economy growth

Always in the belief that the price rise is going to effect the poor sections of the society in the most devastating way. And quite true to this belief the reality is happening right now here in india.
But the more true fact is that it's not affecting the lowest section of society but to the country as a whole. Rising prices led to increase in the money spend per capita consumption of the citizens of india. With the increase in expenditure in fulfilling day to day needs, they are going to demand for more wages either from the private sector or the government sector. And India which is thriving on the foreign direct investment to fund most of it's projects as well as establishment of manufacturing units by major fortune 500 companies and the sole reason they are migrating to indian subcontinent is the low cost incurred in production which is due to low labour cost.
Now with the increase in price of the basic commodities this low cost factor is going to disappear and what happen next everyone can predict........
